“Most of us start to develop fine lines and wrinkles in our early 30s,” explains Dr Sven Fey, R&D Category Head at Eucerin. Skin aging, like aging in general, is inevitable and there are several different factors that govern it. There’s little we can do about the internal, biological factors such as our genetics and our hormones, but we can take lifestyle steps to avoid and reduce some of the external factors that speed up the aging process: and the most significant to those is over-exposure to the sun.

“Some 90% of premature aging is caused by the sun,” says Dr Fey. “When we set out to create the Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler range, we wanted to protect skin from sun damage as well as to create a formula that would give skin the hydration it needs and plump up deep wrinkles.”

With more than 100 years of clinical experience and expertise, and products that are proven to deliver results, Eucerin is a trusted brand amongst dermatologists worldwide. “94% of the dermatologists we spoke to1 said that they found Hyaluron injections the most versatile way to deal with skin-aging concerns,” explains Dr Fey. “We wanted to create a topical, skincare formula that would offer the wrinkle-filling benefits of Hyaluronic Acid without the need for invasive treatment or, alternatively, support the results of dermatologist-led treatments.”

What are the active ingredients in the formula?

Research began on how to maximize the benefits of Hyaluronic Acid in a topical formula. “Hyaluronic Acid is a powerful moisturizer,” says Dr Fey. Produced naturally in young skin our cells produce less Hyaluronic Acid as we age: skin becomes drier (sometimes referred to as age-induced dryness) and fine lines and wrinkles become more visible on skin’s surface. “We combined two types of Hyaluronic Acid – high and low molecular - in the Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler formula for maximum benefits.” explains Dr Fey.

  • High molecular Hyaluronic Acid remains on skin’s surface and works to improve hydration in the outermost layer of the epidermis – where fine lines and winkles originate. 
  • With molecules that are 40 times smaller2 than those of high molecular Hyaluronic Acid, Low molecular Hyaluronic Acid penetrates further into the epidermal layers where it stimulates skin’s own production of Hyaluronic Acid.

“Using both molecular weights means that the formula addresses surface fine lines and deeper wrinkles, “says Dr. Fey, “but we didn’t just stop there”. Dr Fey and his team went on to enhance the effectiveness of the Hyaluronic Acid by adding Glycine Saponin to the formula. An extract of the soya bean it is, as he explains, “one of the most effective stimulators of Hyaluronic Acid in the dermal layers of skin”. It’s been independently proven to increase Hyaluronic Acid production in skin cells by up to 256%3.

The team then worked with their base formula to add superior UVB and UVA filters to create three day creams offering a range of sun protection to suit all skin types: Hyaluron- Filler Day SPF 15 for dry skin, Hyaluron-Filler Day SPF 15 for normal to combination skin and Hyaluron-Filler Day SPF 30 (for all skin types) and a complexion correction cream available in two shades: Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler CC Cream SPF 15 Light and Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler CC Cream SPF15 Medium.

To enhance the benefits of the day, night and eye creams focus turned to the development of a Concentrate and a dual-efficacy night peel and serum. This latest innovation, Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Night Peeling & Serum has been formulated to exfoliate and refine skin texture. “It’s a double chamber product and unique in anti-aging skincare “explains Dr Fey. “The gel formula in the first chamber contains both high and low molecular Hyaluronic Acid4, while the emulsion in the other chamber contains Glycine Saponin and an effective AHA (alpha-hydroxy-acid) Complex for exfoliation. AHAs are commonly known as Fruit Acids.” When combined together the gel and emulsion promote skin cell renewal and refine skin while plumping up even the deepest wrinkles. “We recommend that, for best results, you use it prior Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Night” adds Dr Fey.
