Read more about our product

Atopic skin is irritable, dry and itchy. This itchiness induces scratching which gets in the way of a good night’s sleep and can have a negative impact on quality of life. Eucerin AtopiControl Calming Balm is a daily-use body balm that has been specially formulated to soothe and intensely moisturize irritated and itchy skin. The light but nourishing oil-in-water balm is enriched with soothing Licochalcone A, Ceramides and Shea butter to strengthen skin’s barrier and relieve dryness and itching. It should also be used during a flare-up alongside Eucerin AtopiControl Acute Care Cream, Eucerin Anti-Itch Spray and your usual medication. The atopic eczema balm provides instant moisture to make skin soft and smooth and, with regular application, skin condition noticeably improves. The fragrance-free balm has a light, pleasant texture that absorbs quickly and is non-greasy and non-sticky. Eucerin AtopiControl Calming Balm is dermatologically tested for dry, atopic skin. It is safe to use from day one for the fragile skin of newborns and babies, nappy area only from 1st month . Due to the sensitive yet effective formula, it is also ideal for children and adults, hence a balm for the whole family that preserves the skin barrier and actively soothes itchy skin.

How to Use

Apply the atopic eczema balm daily as often as needed. For best results, use in combination with Eucerin AtopiControl Calming Shower Oil.

  • Licochalcone A

Licochalcone A is a powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing ingredient. It is derived from the root of the Chinese Licorice plant (Glycyrrhiza Inflata) which uses natural compounds to protect its cells from excessive sunlight. When used in skincare products, Licochalcone A works to reduce inflammation and neutralize free radicals that negatively influence skin cells and accelerate the aging process. It helps to protect the deeper epidermal skin layers from sun-induced effects.

  • Ceramides

Ceramides are important lipids in the hydrolipid film (which protects the external layers of skin). Produced naturally in healthy skin, they strengthen the skin barrier, helping to prevent moisture loss due to evaporation and keeping out irritants that can cause inflammation and itching. When skin’s Ceramide levels fall the skin barrier is impaired. Skin can start to lose water and become dry and irritated.

Eucerin uses synthetic Ceramides that are biologically-identical and that enhance skin’s natural barrier – locking in moisture and preventing dryness and irritation.

  • Grape Seed Oil

Grape Seed Oil is a rich source of essential fatty acids and Vitamin E. The polyphenols and flavonoids found in Grape Seed Oil are strong anti-oxidant compounds and, thus, provide protection from damage caused by free radicals while Linoleic acid soothes and nourishes skin.

  • Evening Primrose Oil

Evening Primrose Oil is a natural plant oil that contains a high percentage of Omega-6 fatty acids, namely Linoleic and Gamma-Linolenic Acid. These help stabilise the skin’s natural protective barrier and reduce moisture loss, which in turn soothes and nourishes rough and dry skin.

FAQ

What is the difference between Eucerin AtopiControl Calming Balm and Rich Calming Lotion.

The body balm and the lotion are both ideal for use on atopic skin all over the body. They are both effective at soothing skin and supporting its natural barrier function. The choice of which product to use comes down to textural preference: the eczema balm is an oil-in-water formulation and is lighter; the water-in-oil lotion is richer. Some people choose to use the lotion during the winter and the balm during the summer.

Is Eucerin AtopiControl Calming Balm suitable for use on babies and newborns?

Yes, the eczema balm is suitable for newborns as of day one, nappy area only from 1st month.

What do you mean by a ‘flare-up’ and ‘the period between flare-ups’?

Broadly speaking, Atopic Dermatitis has two different phases. A ‘flare-up’ is one of the names used to describe the acute, active phase when skin is at its most irritable. It can feel intensely itchy, you may experience a burning sensation and skin can look red, dry and flaky. Between these acute, flare-up phases are periods of time when your skin is relatively calm and less irritated. This period is also known as the non-acute, non-active or interval phase. The length of each phase varies greatly depending on the individual, but products specially formulated to care for atopic skin − such as those in the Eucerin AtopiControl range − can help to extend the period between flare-ups and offer relief during acute flare-ups.

Is Atopic Dermatitis the same as Atopic Eczema?

Atopic Dermatitis and Atopic Eczema are collective terms for inflammatory changes to the skin and they include many different dermatological diseases. Atopic Dermatitis and Atopic Eczema are used to describe the same chronic inflammatory condition.

Is the Eucerin AtopiControl Calming Balm suitable as an all over body moisturizer for daily use?

Yes, Eucerin AtopiControl Calming Balm is a daily-use body balm that has been specially formulated to soothe and intensely moisturize irritated and itchy skin.
