About
Moisturizer for acne-prone skin
Eucerin DERMOPURE Adjunctive Soothing Cream is a moisturizer for acne-prone skin specially formulated for people undergoing medical acne treatment.
One of the side effects of acne medication is that it frequently causes severe dryness in skin. This intensely moisturising, non-greasy cream soothes these symptoms. Ceramides support skin’s protective barrier and reduce moisture loss, SymSitive* helps to calm irritation such as stinging and burning directly at source and Licochalcone A helps to reduce redness. The formula helps to bring demanding, blemish- and acne-prone skin under control and it feels smooth and supple after the first application.

How to Use
Step-by-step guide for DERMOPURE Adjunctive Soothing Cream
Cleanse skin in the morning and evening: am: to remove the sebum and dead skin cells that have accumulated overnight pm: to remove make-up and free skin from the day’s dirt Use gentle cleansing products such as Eucerin DERMOPURE Cleansing Gel with lukewarm water and follow with an appropriate toner. You may also benefit from using a scrub once a week to unclog pores and refine skin texture. We do not recommend using an alcohol-based toner and the scrub alongside acne medication as it can make skin more sensitive. If you like the refreshing feel of a toner, try the alcohol-free Eucerin DERMOPURE Micellar Water instead.
The care product you use depends on the severity of your acne and on the type of treatment you are undergoing. If you are using medical treatment for acne, Eucerin DERMOPURE Adjunctive Soothing Cream helps to alleviate some of the symptoms such as intense dryness. It should be applied five minutes after your medication so the treatment can absorb fully. If you have mild to moderate acne, but are not undergoing medical acne treatment, use a soothing and mattifying moisturiser such as Eucerin DERMOPURE Mattifying Fluid in the morning and evening. For clearer and smoother-looking skin over time, you may also like to incorporate our skin renewal treatment into your routine. It is suitable for all blemish-prone skin that is not undergoing medical acne treatment and should be used once a day only − ideally in the evening. You can use it before the mattifying fluid or on its own.
Sun protection is an important step in your morning routine. Blemishes can cause pigmentation issues if over-exposed to the sun, and acne medications can make blemish-prone skin even more sensitive to UV rays. Eucerin Sun Gel-Creme Oil Control Dry Touch SPF30 and SPF50+ offers the levels of protection that your skin needs and should be applied before your cover-up and make-up. If you’re applying sun protection after a topical acne treatment wait five minutes to allow the treatment to fully absorb.
Cover blemishes and even out skin tone with foundation and/or a concealer. Choose products that are non-comedogenic (i.e. that will not block pores) and, ideally, ones that contain ingredients that work to improve the condition of blemish-prone skin. Be sure to remove all make-up before you go to bed.

SymSitive* is a fast-acting ingredient especially developed for hypersensitive skin. It offers immediate relief because it regulates the sensitivity of hyper-reactive skin sensory fibres which are responsible for the burning, stinging and tingling sensations that occur in hypersensitive skin. Not only does it calm over-reactivity in skin, it increases skin-tolerance and, over time, helps to increase the skin's resistance to stressors.

Licochalcone A is a powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing ingredient. It is derived from the root of the Chinese Licorice plant (Glycyrrhiza Inflata) which uses natural compounds to protect its cells from excessive sunlight. When used in skincare products, Licochalcone A works to reduce inflammation and neutralize free radicals that negatively influence skin cells and accelerate the aging process. It helps to protect the deeper epidermal skin layers from sun-induced effects.
Ceramides are important lipids in the hydrolipid film (which protects the external layers of skin). Produced naturally in healthy skin, they strengthen the skin barrier, helping to prevent moisture loss due to evaporation and keeping out irritants that can cause inflammation and itching. When skin’s Ceramide levels fall the skin barrier is impaired. Skin can start to lose water and become dry and irritated.
Eucerin uses synthetic Ceramides that are biologically-identical and that enhance skin’s natural barrier – locking in moisture and preventing dryness and irritation.
Panthenol and Dexpanthenol are two names commonly used for the same ingredient. Panthenol converts into Pantothenic Acid (a B Complex Vitamin) in the skin and enhances skin regeneration and repair. When applied regularly, it has been proven to considerably improve symptoms of skin irritation such as dryness, roughness, scaling and redness.
Panthenol/Dexpanthenol is also an effective moisturizer. It improves hydration in the outermost layers of the skin and helps to reduce transepidermal water loss.
Can I carry on using Eucerin DERMOPURE Adjunctive Soothing Cream when I’m no longer having medical treatment for acne?
Yes. The product can be used on an ongoing basis even when you are not having medical treatment for acne. If you have dry, blemish-prone skin it’s likely to be very suitable, but if your skin stops being so dry you may find it too rich and need a lighter product. Try Eucerin DERMOPURE Mattifying Fluid.
Which type of medical acne treatments does Eucerin DERMOPURE Adjunctive Soothing Cream work with?
It is an ideal moisturiser to accompany both topical treatments (such as Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide) and systemic acne therapies (such as Isotretinoin).
I’ve previously used the Eucerin DermoPurifyer Adjunctive Hydrating Care SPF30. What is the difference between that and Euceirn DERMOPURE Adjunctive Soothing Care?
We have fundamentally changed the formula of this product. If you used Adjunctive Hydrating Care in the past then you will be absolutely fine to use this new cream and we hope you’ll experience additional benefits.
Our new, improved formula contains SymSitive*, Panthenol, more Licochalcone A, Ceramide and more Glycerin.
It is now free from Parabens and no longer contains an SPF. This means that this product is now also suitable for night time use. Skin is particularly sensitive to the sun when it is undergoing acne treatment so we recommend you apply additional sun protection in the morning. Try Eucerin Sun Gel Creme Oil Control Dry Touch SPF30 or SPF50+ depending on your levels of exposure.

Does the product contain sun protection factor?
No, so you can use it in the evenings. When skin is undergoing medical acne treatment it is particularly sensitive to the sun so, if your skin is going to be exposed for a considerable time, you should regularly apply a sun screen such as Eucerin Sun Gel Creme Oil Control Dry Touch SPF50+
I cover my acne with make-up. Am I making everything worse?
Thorough cleansing and moisturising will make little difference if skin is regularly contaminated by cosmetics that promote impurities. Be sure to use make-up that is suitable for your skin and don’t forget to remove it thoroughly in the evening. Eucerin DERMOPURE Cover Stick has been specially formulated to both conceal and reduce blemishes. Your doctor or pharmacist will be able to advice you on cosmetic choices.
