Gluco-Glycerol (also known as Glyceryl Glucoside) is a nature-identical combination of glycerol and glucose. Used by blue-green algae to ensure their survival for 3.5 billion years, Gluco-Glycerol has been proven to stimulate the creation of Aquaporin 3 (AQP3) in human skin cells, thus increasing the number of aquaporins. Aquaporins control water transfer into and out of the cells. The more AQP3’s there are, the better the distribution of moisture within the deeper layers of skin.
By stimulating skin’s own water system, Gluco-Glycerol helps to moisture skin and improve its barrier function.
APG Complex (short for Alkylpolyglucoside) is an extra mild cleanser. The `G` stands for Glucoside, which is a nature-derived surfactant. Surfactants are the active ingredients in cleansers that enable them to clean the skin by lifting and removing impurities. There are several different types of surfactant widely used in skin cleaning products. Anionic (negatively charged) surfactants are often used because of their great foaming properties, but Glucoside (which is non-ionic, with no charge) is proven to be particularly gentle on the skin.
What does Micellar mean?
Micelles are microscopic, spherical aggregates of surfactant molecules. Each surfactant molecule has a hydrophilic (water-loving) head that is attracted to water molecules and a hydrophobic (water-hating) tail that repels water and simultaneously attaches itself to the oil and grease in dirt or eye make-up. These opposing forces loosen dirt and eye make-up and suspend it in the water which is wiped away on the cotton pad. Micellar cleansers are highly effective, do not require water and are especially suitable for sensitive skin.
Can I not just use my cleanser to remove my eye make-up?
Several of our cleansers are clinically and dermatologically proven to remove eye make-up, including waterproof eye make-up, but we always recommend using Eucerin DermatoCLEAN Eye Make-Up Remover to remove resistant waterproof mascara and/or to effectively remove all traces of other waterproof eye make-up, some of which are not visible. The product has been specially formulated to pH7.4, the optimum pH for the eye area, and has been ophthalmologically tested so is proven to be safe for your eyes
Why does the eye make-up remover have two different layers?
Our eye make-up remover is what’s known as dual-phase or bi-phase. The bottom, clear layer has a water base and removes make-up that is water soluble. The top, blue layer has a non-greasy oil base and gets to work on water-resistant make up including waterproof mascara.
I wear contact lenses. Can I use Eucerin DermatoCLEAN Eye Make-Up Remover?
Yes. Clinical and ophthalmological tests have proven that the product is compatible with eyes and is suitable for contact lens wearers.
